On April 8, 2023, H. E. Mr. Viktor Borecký,
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the
Republic of Uzbekistan, visited the headquarters of the International Institute
for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) together with his family members.
After an exchange of memorable gifts and a
short introduction, Dr. Dmitry Voyakin, Director of IICAS, informed Mr. Borecký
about the Institute's current activities and ongoing projects. The participants
enjoyed exchanging news from the past three and a half years, as the last time
the Secretariat of IICAS hosted Mr. Borecký in November 2019 as part of an
official delegation.
Separately, the parties discussed the prospects
for establishing research cooperation between IICAS, scientists and researchers
from the Central Asian region and their colleagues from the Slovak Republic.
It is worth recalling that with the sincere support
of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020 the
Institute concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with the Center of
Interdisciplinary Biosciences, Technology and Innovation Park, Pavol Jozef
Šafárik University in Košice (CIB UPJŠ). In 2021 IICAS offered financial
support for the project The Central Asiatic Paleontological Heritage: Dinosaurs
of the Silk Road – The Slovak-Uzbek Exploration Program, which is being
implemented under the 2022-2023 IICAS research program.
