The International Institute for Central Asian
Studies (IICAS) announces the 4th and the last online lecture
dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Prof. Vladimir LIVSHITS (1923 – 2017) to
be given on October 06, 2023, by Dr. Pavel LURJE, Head of the Section for
Central Asia and Caucasus, State Hermitage Museum. The lecture is entitled “New data on Turko-Sogdian monumental inscriptions from
Kyrgyzstan”.
The lecture will be devoted to a few new
readings of the inscriptions of the Upper Talas valley in Terek-say and
Kulan-say as well as little known short inscriptions from Nookat in South
Kyrgyzstan and Kuru-Bakayïr in midstream Talas. It is tacitly proposed that
Kulan-say inscription might have been written by Manichaean elite of Qarluqs,
while that of Quru-Baqayïr is perhaps Moslem and Nookat is either Christian or
Moslem.
The lecture is open to everyone interested in
the Sogdian heritage and will be held in Zoom in English. Simultaneous
interpretation into Russian will be available. Please, feel free to join at the
following link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/89707773068?pwd=NU4xQnJvMUpRUHJucFpuWXB6OHhUdz09
Online lecture series is held in the framework
of the Silk Road Memory of the World (MoW) joint research project through the
generous support of the International Center for Documentary Heritage (ICDH)
under the auspices of UNESCO.
