The international
scientific conference “Harmony of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage”
was organized in Bukhara (Uzbekistan) on 9th September 2023. The
forum, held in a hybrid format, was initiated by the Center for Propaganda of
Culture and Art of Uzbekistan “Umrboqiy Meros” in collaboration with Bukhara
State University and in partnership with the International Institute of Central
Asian Studies. The conference was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the
UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and
the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural
and Natural Heritage. Representatives of international organizations (IICAS,
UNESCO category 2 centers in the field of intangible cultural heritage in Iran
and Japan) and experts from the following countries participated in the conference:
Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, Russia,
Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. The forum discussed challenges related with
implementation of 1972 and 2003 UNESCO Conventions in the field of cultural
heritage, issues of public-private partnership and the role of public
organizations and local communities to promote integrated approach in projects
for the protection of tangible and safeguarding of intangible cultural
