Collaboration on the Kultobe archaeological park
Conservation
and restoration works are being carried out at the site of Kultobe by Kazakh
Institute of Culture leaded by Dr. Andrey R. Khazbulatov and under the expert
support and supervision of the International Institute for Central Asian
Studies (IICAS).
The
measures are being implemented in the framework of a wider initiative aimed to
create an archaeological park within the boundaries of the Buffer Zone of the
World Heritage Property of the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. The objective
of the project is raising awareness on the history of the city of Turkestan and
promotion of the tourism potential.
The works
are being carried out on the area of 9 ha. The total of 10 archaeological
monuments, including the remains of residential houses of various epochs,
fragments of the religious sites, fortification walls and paved streets of the
19-20th centuries are in the focus of the project.
Scientific
conservation and partial restoration and the subsequent museumification are
implemented in accordance with high international standards and relevant laws
and regulations in Kazakhstan.
