Silk Roads: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor has been recommended for the inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) has recommended the Silk Roads: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This serial transnational nomination, with 31 sites located in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, reflects the interchange of cultures, religions, technologies, art and literature along this section of the Silk Roads.

After more than a decade of transnational work, IICAS, secretariat of the nomination, coordinated the efforts of the States Parties towards the submission of the nomination dossier and supported the cultural heritage protection and management of the sites.

The final decision on the inscription of the property is foreseen in September 2023 at the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
