Second meeting of the International Advisory Board
(IAB) of the Culture Masters Inc. was held online on 27 October 2023. Culture Masters (www.culturemasters.org) is a non-governmental organization in the Republic of Korea,
with objectives to develop the innovative solutions for cultural initiatives,
to promote the sustainable cultural development and to foster the next
generation of culture leaders. International Advisory Board consists of leading
experts in the field of cultural heritage from Australia, Bulgaria, Canada,
India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Norway,
Uzbekistan and Vietnam. Second meeting was chaired by the representative of the
International Institute for Central Asian Studies. Dr. Seong-Yong Park, CEO of the Culture
Masters Inc, presented brief report on preparation of the World Ethnic
Performing Arts Festival (WEPAF), which is tentatively planned to be organized
in Incheon in 2024-2025. Under the next agenda item, members of the IAB
examined the 6 candidatures for the Gugak Master title, submitted by Indonesia,
Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. The
Gugak Masters Designation project is aimed to promote the status of artists,
artisans and cultural communities. Candidates who excel in skill and mastery,
creativity and innovation, and education and mentorship are selected for the
designation. All submitted nominees were unanimously approved. It was reminded
that during first meeting of the IAB, two candidates from the Republic of Korea
have been unanimously selected as Gugak Masters too. Further, members of the
IAB were informed on outcomes of the 3rd Meeting of the Coordinating
Bureau of the Silk Roads Living Heritage Network (Shymkent/Kazakhstan, 23-24
October 2023) and upcoming 9th General Assembly of the Inter-City
Intangible Cultural Cooperation Network (Kozhikode/Kerala/India, 10-14 November
2023). Next, third meeting of the IAB was tentatively suggested to be held
online on 27th February 2024.
