Mr. Javier Ors Ausín, Program Manager of the World Monuments Fund (WMF),
visited the office of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies
(IICAS). The main topic of the working meeting was the discussion of the progress
and achievements of the "Traditional Bukharian Jewish Houses and Mahallas"
implemented by IICAS in cooperation with the Bukhara State University (BSU) and
with the generous financial support of the World Monuments Fund.
The meeting was a
logical continuation of the scheduled Watch Day held in the historic center of
Bukhara with the participation of stakeholders and the local community on March
30, 2022.
The historic
center of Bukhara was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993. The
traditional residential housing and the mahallas were included into the 2020
World Monuments Watch program with the aim of their preservation and promotion.
