On June 9,
2023, a meeting was held at the headquarters of the International Institute for
Central Asian Studies (IICAS) with Elena Paskaleva, Doctor of Leiden University
(Netherlands), corresponding member of IICAS. Dr. Paskaleva is a well-known
specialist in Iranian studies and the author of many research papers on this
topic.
During the
meeting, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation between IICAS and
Leiden University in the research of the cultural heritage of Central Asia, in
particular, participation in international projects, organization of academic
events and exchange of publications. Dr. Paskaleva also spoke about the
preparations for the European Conference of Iranian Studies (ECIS), which will
be held at the Leiden University in August 21 to 25, 2023. She invited IICAS
representatives to speak at the events, with reports on their research
activities and publications.
The
European Conference of Iranian Studies (ECIS) is one of the major conferences
in Europe on Iranian studies. It is held every four years and is organized by
the European Society of Iranian Studies (Societas Iranologica Europaea, SIE).
The conference gathers scholars from different countries engaged in the study
of various aspects of Iranian civilization from antiquity to the present day.

Ona
Vileikis was another participant in the meeting. Dr. Vileikis is an architect
and heritage expert with extensive work and research experience; she is a
researcher at the Institute of Archaeology at University College London (UCL).
The joint trilateral meeting between the long-term partners featured the
discussion of prospects for joint work in future projects.
