On June 22,
2023, and October 17, 2023, the fourth and fifth expert meetings were held
online for the UNESCO/Japan Trust Fund (JFit) project “Support Silk Roads World
Heritage Nomination(s) Process" (Phase III).
The
meetings were jointly organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre (WHC) and
the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS).
Participants
in the event included representatives from the WHC of UNESCO, Teikyo
University, University College London (UCL), IICAS, the Ministry of Culture of
Azerbaijan, and two experts from each participating state, as well as invited
international experts.
Opening the
fifth meeting, Ms. Himalchuli Gurung, Chief of Asia and the Pacific Unit,
UNESCO World Heritage Centre, delivered a welcoming speech.
During active
discussions, participants exchanged the issues of international cooperation in
the process of preparing the serial transnational nomination "Silk Roads:
Volga-Caspian Corridor" and technical details of organizing the First
Annual Sub-Regional Expert Meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, which will take place
from October 22-26, 2023.
