The International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) is happy to present the monograph “Artistic Metal in Bukhara and the Bukhara Oasis in the 8th to the 14th Centuries” by A. I. Torgoev, D. K. Mirzaakhmedov and B. G. Kurbanov. This work is the result of a grant project supported by IICAS as part of its research programme.

The book analyses various types of metal items discovered on the territory of medieval Bukhara and its neighbourhood and stored in museums and private collections in the city. The authors show how Bukharan masters perceived and creatively developed the artistic traditions of Khorasan, one of the leading centres of Islamic culture. A special focus is on the stylistic and compositional features of different types of metal forms. The book will be helpful to specialists in the archaeology, history, art and culture of medieval Transoxiana. PDF-copy of the book can be downloaded for free from the following link: Link
