The International Institute for Central Asian
Studies (IICAS) announces a series of open lectures
dedicated to the 100-years anniversary of Prof. Vladimir A. LIVSHITS.
On October 6 2023 we shall celebrate the
100-years anniversary of Professor Vladimir Aronovich LIVSHITS (1923 – 2017),
who made most significant contributions to the Middle Iranian epigraphic texts.
With the support of the International Center for Documentary Heritage (ICDH) under
the auspices of UNESCO in the framework of the UNESCO MoW joint research
project IICAS arranges a series of online lectures. The lectures are devoted to
the recent progress in reading and understanding of Sogdian epigraphic and
secular texts, the field where LIVSHITS’ studies were so outstanding.
The lectures will be held on four Fridays,
September 15th to October 6th, 2:00 PM Tashkent time. They will be delivered
online in English with simultaneous Russian translation and will be followed by
a question-and-answer session.
The lectures will be given by Prof. N.
Sims-Williams (The Rediscovery of Sogdian), Prof. Frantz Grenet (Dewashtich’s
postal system), Prof. Y. Yoshida (Three Sogdian Inscriptions from
Mongolia), and Dr. Pavel Lurje (New data on Turko-Sogdian monumental
inscriptions from Kyrgyzstan). Further information about the anticipated
lectures will be provided in the coming days.
