On 7
November 2023, the 26th meeting of the Academic Council of the International
Institute of Central Asian Studies (IICAS) was held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
According
to the protocol, the welcoming speech by Dmitry Voyakin, director of IICAS, was
followed by the election of the chairman, vice-chairman and reporter. The
participants ceremonially welcomed Mr. Enkhbat Avirmed, the newly appointed
representative of Mongolia to the IICAS Academic Council.
The meeting
included a report on the Institute's activities and achievements over 6 years
(2018-2023), the implementation of the research programme and the secretariat's
work in 2022-2023. The members of the Academic Council studied carefully the
financial performance, the analysis of the main budget and some budget-related
forecasts for 2024-2025.
Among the
most important aspects were the proposal of candidates for the position of
IICAS director for 2024-2027 and the discussion of grant applications for
2024-2025 on the basis of points awarded.
The
recommendations given by the members of the Academic Council and preliminary
conclusions will be presented at the upcoming session of the General Assembly
scheduled for 14 November 2023 in Tashkent.
The Silk
Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage rendered active
support within the framework of the signed memorandum of understanding for
research cooperation in organizing and holding the meeting by kindly providing
premises and necessary equipment.
