The 10th
European Conference of Iranian Studies (ECIS 10), organized every four years by
the European Society of Iranology (Societas Iranologica Europaea, SIE), was
held at Leiden University, the Netherlands, from August 21 to 25.
The
European Society of Iranologists is an international academic society in the
field of Iranian Studies with members from European and non-European countries.
SIE was founded in 1983 in Rome with the support of the European Science
Foundation and the Istituto Italiano per il Medio ed Estremo Oriente on the
occasion of the First European Colloquium on Iranology.
The
conference dealt with a wide range of topics in line with the objectives of the
European Society of Iranology (Societas Iranologica Europaea), which focuses on
promoting, developing and supporting research on Ancient, Middle and Modern
Iranian Studies in all subject areas of the field, including philology,
linguistics, literature, history, religions, art, archaeology, philosophy,
ethnology, geography, humanities and law.
During the
conference there was an exhibition of publications, where Bloomsbury
Publishing, Brill Publishers, Leiden University Press, Austrian Academy of
Sciences Press and others participated, including the International Institute
for Central Asian Studies (IICAS), which presented more than 70 publications.
The Institute's stand was well attended by conference participants, who
appreciated the free distribution of publications, translation into English and
free access to electronic copies as advantages.
The
exhibition contributed to the promotion of IICAS and its activities. In
particular, an agreement was reached with Leiden University on further
participation of IICAS in major scientific events, including the presentation
of new publications to international readers.
