Director of IICAS Mr. Evren Rutbil took part in the international conference on "History and Culture of the Peoples of Steppe Eurasia: the Origins of Traditions and Diversity of Cultures" (Kazan/Russian Federation, 30 March – 1 April 2024). The main organizer of the conference is the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. In his speech, the Director of IICAS in particular emphasized that the conference is taking place in a city with a 1000-year history and member of the UNESCO Creative Cities network in the field of music. There are four UNESCO World Heritage sites in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan: the Kazan Kremlin, the Archaeological complex of the city of Bolgar, the Assumption Cathedral on the island of Sviyazhsk and the Astronomical observatories of the Kazan Federal University. Currently, IICAS together with scientific organizations of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, Iran, Japan, Great Britain and Italy is participating in the preparation of a serial transnational nomination “Silk Road: Volga-Caspian Corridor” for the UNESCO World heritage list. The Kazan conference was attended by scientists from Bulgaria, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Romania, Russian Federation, Turkey and Uzbekistan. The programme of the conference consisting of following sections: material culture of Steppe Eurasia, history and ethnography of Steppe Eurasia, Eurasian Steppe empires, Turkic and Finno-Ugric communities in Eurasia, Orda legacy in Eurasia, Steppe Eurasia in global history. On the last day of the conference participants were invited to the solemn event devoted to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute of Archaeology named after A. Kh.  Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences. During the conference Mr. Evren Rutbil had an opportunity to meet with Mr. Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education,  in order to discuss the future cooperation between IICAS and academic institutions of the Russian Federation.
