211th session of the UNESCO Executive Board (7-21 April 2021) considered the proposals by Member States for the celebration of anniversaries in 2022-2023 with which UNESCO could be associated.

211th session of the UNESCO Executive Board (7-21 April 2021) considered the proposals by Member States for the celebration of anniversaries in 2022-2023 with which UNESCO could be associated. The UNESCO Secretariat received 77 proposals, submitted by 48 Member States. The Intersectoral Selection Committee for Anniversaries examined all the proposals submitted. It selected 60 proposals which were deemed to comply with the programme's established criteria. The list of anniversaries is subject for approval by the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference (November 2021). Among selected proposals six following anniversaries were submitted by the IICAS’s Member States:

·         200th anniversary of the birth of Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev, philanthropist (1823-1924) (Azerbaijan, with the support of Pakistan, Russian Federation and Turkey);

·         100th anniversary of the birth of Fikret Amirov, composer (1922-1984) (Azerbaijan, with the support of Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation and Turkey);

·         150th anniversary of the birth of Akhmet Baitursynuly, linguist and writer (1872-1937) (Kazakhstan, with the support of Belarus, Islamic Republic of Iran, Tajikistan and Turkey);

·         600th anniversary of the death of Süleyman Çelebi, philosopher and poet (1351-1422) (Turkey, with the support of Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Malaysia, North Macedonia, Romania and Ukraine);

·         50th anniversary of the death of Âşık Veysel, poet and musician (1894-1973) (Turkey, with the support of Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan);

·         1050th anniversary of the birth of Abu Raykhon Beruniy, scholar (973-1048) (Uzbekistan, with the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Tajikistan and Turkey).
