New elements inscribed to the Lists under the UNESCO Convention for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

The 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (Rabat/Morocco, 28th November - 3rd December 2022) inscribed 48 new elements to the Lists under the UNESCO Convention on Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Among them following ICH elements from IICAS’s Member States were inscribed to the Representative List: Crafting and playing the Oud (Iran, Syrian Arab Republic), Talchum, mask dance drama (Republic of Korea), Traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices (China), Yaldā/Chella (Iran, Afghanistan), Orteke, traditional performing art in Kazakhstan: dance, puppet and music (Kazakhstan), Turkmen-style needlework art (Turkmenistan, Iran), Sericulture and traditional production of silk for weaving (Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Türkiye, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan), Pehlevanliq culture: traditional zorkhana games, sports and wrestling (Azerbaijan), Telling tradition of Nasreddin Hodja/ Molla Nesreddin/ Molla Ependi/ Apendi/ Afendi Kozhanasyr Anecdotes (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan), Culture of Çay (tea), a symbol of identity, hospitality and social interaction (Azerbaijan, Türkiye). Traditional Ahlat stonework (Turkiye) was inscribed to the List of ICH in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.
