On 4th and 5th October 2023,
Dushanbe, Tajikistan, hosted a seminar organised as part of the joint
preparation and promotion of the “Ancient Khuttal” serial nomination, which was
attended by representatives of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies
(IICAS), the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan, local and
international experts. The experts were warmly received and welcomed by the
Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan M. M. Sharifzoda.
Experts from IICAS, consisting
of Dr. J. Reep, Dr. S. Mantellini, Dr. O. Vileikis and N. Aituganova, discussed
the following important topics with officials from the department for the
protection and use of historical and cultural heritage under the Ministry of
Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan:
- Serial object management
- Management and conservation
plans for component parts;
- Construction and heritage
impact assessment (HIA) projects
- Legislative protection of
cultural heritage (serial nominations);
- Protection and improvement
of nomination component parts.
This seminar is an important
stage in the preparation and inclusion of monuments into the UNESCO World
Cultural Heritage List.
