UNESCO Global Geoparks: Geological, Cultural, and Natural Heritage Program is a scientific and educational initiative by the Kyrgyz Republic, carried out with the financial support of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) in the framework of biannual grant cycle 2022-2023.

A series of seminars are planned to be held within the framework of this program to raise awareness of local communities, local, and regional administrations and other stakeholders about geoparks, and the cultural and geological significance of the territory where they live. Participants will be introduced to the UNESCO Programs and Conventions, in particular the UNESCO Global Geoparks program, the 1972 World Heritage Convention, and the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage as well as with UNESCO's relevant activities, including the international experience in heritage management. Local communities are the key to the sustainable development of each geopark; therefore, holding meetings and conversations with them is one of the priorities.

The main goal of the project is to preserve the cultural, natural and geological heritage, create conditions for the development of sustainable tourism and increase the awareness of the local population about the UNESCO programs and Conventions in the field of natural, and cultural heritage.

The target audience of the seminars are representatives of local communities, local and regional administrations, and the tourism, scientific and educational sectors.
