The photo
archive of Professor Nona Avanesova was digitized by the International
Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) between September 2022 and March
2023 within the framework of the Central Asian Archaeological Landscape (CAAL)
project.
Nona
Avanesova is one of the most experienced researchers in Uzbekistan and for many
years has been teaching various archaeology-related courses to master and
bachelor students of Faculty of History at Samarkand State University. The
necropolises of Sapalla culture in Jarkutan 4B1, Buston VI and Buston VII were
in the focus of the field studies she completed with her students in the
framework of a number of archaeological expeditions.
Over the
years, Professor Avanesova has accumulated a large amount of photographic data,
which she continues using in teaching process. Within the framework of the
project more than 26,000 pictures, slides, schemes, negatives, films,
documenting research discoveries, finds, plans, excavations, work of the
expedition and many other things were digitized. Part of this archival material
will be entered into the Arches database.
