On March 3, 2022, the International Institute
for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) hosted Ms. Tamar Teneishvili, Сoordinator of the International
Advisory Committee on Cultural Heritage, established by the Government of the
Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with UNESCO Uzbekistan. The meeting was
also attended by the representatives of the Cultural Heritage Agency under the
Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the
UNESCO Office in Tashkent.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views
on the state of affairs in the field of safeguarding, management and promotion
of the world cultural heritage in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the tasks and
challenges faced by the heritage authorities and the academic community.
Special attention was paid to the implementation of the decisions of the World
Heritage Committee adopted at the 44th session in July 2021.
The International Advisory Committee on
Cultural Heritage was established in pursuance of the Decree of the Cabinet of
Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 371 dated 14.06.2021. The Committee
was entrusted to propose Uzbekistan’s cultural properties for the inscription on
the World Heritage List, as well as to expand cooperation with international
organizations and advisory bodies to UNESCO (International Council on Monuments
and Sites (ICOMOS), International Center for the Study of the Preservation and
Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM)).
