A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was ceremonially signed between the Khalikov Institute of Archaeology of the Academic of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan represented by Dr. Ayrat Sitdikov and the Gulamov Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, represented by Dr. Muminkhon Sayidov at Headquarters of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) on the 09 April 2022.
The Parties agreed to make focus on research cooperation in the field of archaeology as well as on a wide array of the multidisciplinary study of archaeological materials. The scope of cooperation under the MoU includes holding joint academic seminars, conferences, workshops, field studies, arrangement of internships and capacity-building initiatives, publishing papers and exchanging scientific data.
The first practical step in the framework of the MoU has been holding the 9th International Archaeological Field School organized in Samarkand by Kazan (Volga) Federal University, Khalikov Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of The Republic of Tatarstan, Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, IICAS, "Silk Road" International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, and Gulamov Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Further intensive cooperation between the institutions is expected to strengthen academic ties between the researchers across Central Asia and wider geographic area.
