Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) between the International Institute for Central Asian
Studies (IICAS) on behalf of Director Dr. Voyakin D.A. and a consulting organization
based in Belgium Business and Strategies in Europe S.A. (B&S Europe) was
signed on May 24, 2022 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Vincent Curie,
Managing Director of B&S Europe, and Dmitriy Voyakin, Director of IICAS,
discussed further steps of cooperation in the field of cultural heritage
protection in Uzbekistan, with a special focus on fighting illicit trafficking
of cultural property. B&S Europe's experience in combating illicit
trafficking, as well as in project management might contribute to the
successful implementation of projects for the benefit of Uzbekistan and its
World Heritage Sites.
Discussions at
this point focused on understanding how the two organizations can complement
each other's expertise in this particular area, as well as a deeper
understanding of the field of heritage protection and the phenomenon of
trafficking in cultural property in Uzbekistan.
During their visit
to Tashkent, Dmitry Voyakin, Vincent Curie, and Paulo Roquete Vitorino
participated in working meetings with Mr. Shahrier Nurulloyev, head of the
Agency for Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Mr. Alexandros
Makarigakis, UNESCO Representative in Uzbekistan.
