The International Institute for Central Asian
Studies (IICAS) is pleased to announce that the 9th International
Archaeological Field School (for the first time in its history!) will be held
in Samarkand between 12 and 25 September 2022. It is expected to be the 2nd
Stage of the School, of which the 1st one will be traditionally held
in on the basis of the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural
Museum-Reserve, Russian Federation (15-28 August 2022).
The School is organized jointly by Kazan
(Volga) Federal University, Khalikov Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of
Sciences of The Republic of Tatarstan, Bolgar State Historical and
Architectural Museum-Reserve, IICAS, "Silk Road" International
University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, and Gulamov Institute of
Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of The Republic of Uzbekistan. It is
co-convened by Samarkand State University and Samarkand Regional Local History
Museum.
Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as
PhD students, researchers and emerging professionals under 35 years old with
area of expertise in history, cultural heritage and other relevant fields are
strongly encouraged to apply.
The following scientific areas will be covered in
the framework of the 2nd stage of the School:
- Bioarchaeology
- Ancient ceramics as a mass
material
- Scientific and laboratory
restoration
- Geoarchaeology
The end of the highly practical training will
be celebrated by "Interdisciplinary Research in Archaeology: Achievements
and Challenges" International Youth Scientific and Practical Conference
scheduled to 25 September 2022.
