The International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) is pleased to announce the release of the publication “Traditional headdresses and head ornaments of the Crimean Tatars” by Ulviye Ablaeva.

For the first time ever, the monograph explores the centuries-long transformation of the complex of headgear and jewelry as the main ethno-cultural marker of the traditional Crimean Tatar society.

The study of the traditional headgear was carried out on the basis of a critical analysis of published and unpublished scientific developments, written, visual, material sources, with reference to the data from related scientific disciplines (art history, folklore, ethnolinguistics, sewing and jewelry production technology, etc.). National folklore, folk customs and rituals was used as additional sources of information. In the course of the work, ten most important problems were identified that require further in-depth research.

The popular science publication is intended for historians, art historians, cultural experts and all those interested in the traditional Crimean Tatar costume and jewelry as a part of the headgear complex.
