The International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International University of Tourism and Hospitality represented by Mainyura Savetovna Murzamadieva, chair of the Board, rector of the university.

The International University of Tourism and Hospitality opened in 2019 is the first specialised international university in Kazakhstan that trains specialists in the tourism and services sector. The teaching staff of the university includes Kazakh and foreign professors, as well as top managers from leading companies engaged in tourism and service provision.

The university gradually and systematically establishes and develops contacts with foreign partners, including cooperation with UNESCO and UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organisation).

The main topic of the studies indicated in the articles of the concluded Memorandum is cultural, social, historical and archaeological research into the Silk Road with a focus on intercultural collaboration and common heritage in Central Asia, the development of new forms of international cooperation in the creation of transboundary routes and the implementation of tasks to promote tourism in the region.

The city of Turkestan, where the university is situated, is the cultural and spiritual centre of the Turkic world, which annually attracts millions of tourists. This is also the location of an important UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Khoja Ahmad Yassawi mausoleum.

Both institutions are expected to establish and develop cooperation in cultural heritage preservation and management, exchange academic data and publications, organise seminars and trainings, and promote joint training and capacity building programmes.

The Memorandum of Understanding will be the first step in building long-term and fruitful relations between the two organisations, aimed at strengthening international cooperation and exploring prospects for further research.
