On 31 March 2023, a consultation between the
staff members of the International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and
Cultural Heritage under the Auspices of UNESCO (HIST) and the International
Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) was held online. The prospects of
mobilizing the remote sensing technologies for the monitoring of cultural
heritage sites across the Silk Roads corridors (both nominated and inscribed)
were among the key discussion items. Besides, the parties conversed on the
challenges, approaches, and best practices and summarized the outcomes of the
joint efforts to assess the change of the setting of component sites of the Silk
Roads: the Routes Network of Chang’an-Tianshan Corridor World Heritage
property. HIST and IICAS confirmed their adherence to intensifying mutual
collaboration in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed in
2019 in Beijing, China.
IICAS is also pleased to highlight that the Webinar
on Space Technologies for Cultural Heritage Conservation hosted by HIST under
the auspices of UNESCO and ICOMOS on 30 March 2023 was a complete success and
managed to become a platform for a number of international experts to discuss
the state of affairs in the field and future research prospects.
