The 34th issue of the Bulletin of IICAS

The International Institute for Central Asian Studies announces the release of the 34th issue of the Bulletin of IICAS. Readers will find in it a number of research articles on archaeology, medieval history and the history of art written by authors from Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. They are dedicated to Early and Middle Paleolithic monuments (Zh. Taymagambetov, R. Suleymanov, A. Mukhammadiev and Kh. Oynazarov), the Sapalli culture of the Bronze Age in the system of Eurasian antiquities (N. Avanesova), the classical tradition of Iranian music (G. Shamilli), East Syriac Christianity in Semirechye (M. Baskhanov), 18th-century export Chinese porcelain (S. Laptev), historiography of the relationship between the Central Asian khanates and the Ottoman Empire (F. Razakov) and other subjects. The 125th anniversary of Mikhail Evgenievich Masson, the founder of archaeology in Central Asia, is marked by the publication of memoirs by his student Doctor of History N. Pilipko. The article by D. A. Voyakin is dedicated to Professor Michael Jansen, director of the German Technological University in Oman, who sadly and prematurely died last year. He has raised an entire generation of specialists in documenting historical monuments and conservation engineering and made a huge contribution to the organisation and implementation of work to preserve the cultural heritage of Asian countries.
