On 12-14 October, the city of Turkestan (Republic of Kazakhstan) will host the 5th International Congress for Archaeology of Eurasian Steppes titled The Eurasian Steppe Civilisation: Man and Historical and Cultural Environment. More than 150 archaeologists from 30 countries will take part in this event. 

In 2007, the Founding Congress of the International Congress of Medieval Archaeology of Eurasian Steppes met in Kazan, where a decision was made to create a new organisational structure. In 2009, the participants of the 1st International Congress recognised the importance of its activities in the implementation of the tasks assigned to it and pointed out the necessity of its regular holding. Since then, the Congress has become an important interregional research platform connecting experts in the medieval archaeology of steppe Eurasia and facilitating the exchange of the results they achieve.

The fifth event was organised by the Khalikov Institute of Archaeology, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan, Russia), Margulan Institute of Archaeology, Committee of Science, Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty, Kazakhstan), International Institute for Central Asian Studies (Samarkand, Uzbekistan), Kazan Federal University (Kazan, Russia), Institute of Archaeology, Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation (Moscow, Russia), Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk, Russia), Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography named after Peter the Great (Kunstkamera), Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg, Russia), Institute of the History of Material Culture, Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg, Russia), Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Ulan-Ude, Russia), Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East, Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Vladivostok, Russia), Altai State University (Barnaul, Russia), and National Archaeological Institute with Museum (Sofia, Bulgaria). Other organisers of the event are the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Akhmet Yasawi (Turkestan, Kazakhstan), where the event will be held, and the Akimat (Municipality) of Turkestan region (Turkestan, Kazakhstan), providing every support to the Fifth Congress.
