On October 12, 2022, the 25th session of the Academic Council of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) was held in the building of the Farab Library in Turkestan, the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The meeting was timed to coincide with the V International Congress of Archeology of the Eurasian Steppes "Eurasian Steppe Civilization: Man and Historical and Cultural Environment", co-organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Akimat (Government) of the Turkestan Province and a number of research organizations and universities from Kazakhstan and Russia, including IICAS.

In addition to the members of the Academic Council, the meeting was attended for the first time by a representative of Keimyung University, Republic of Korea (associate member and partner of the institute) Ms. Farra Sheikh. The Islamic Republic of Iran at the session was represented by Dr. Khalil Shirgholami, acting Vice-President of the Institute of Political and International Studies (IPIS) for research, who replaced Dr. Seyed Majid Ghafelebashi in this post, according to the note of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A welcoming speech by the Director of IICAS Dr. Dmitry Voyakin was followed by a detailed report on the budgetary and extrabudgetary activities of the institute and the implementation of the scientific program and budget for 2022-2023. Separately, a report was presented on the results of Dr. Voyakin's activities as Director of the institute for a 5-year period from 2018 to 2022. The activities of the institute's secretariat staff over the past year were also given positive feedback. The Director summed up some preliminary results of the implementation of the IICAS scientific program for 2022-2023, and also highlighted the achievements and challenges in the implementation of grant projects.

The list of the institute’s Corresponding Members has been replenished with a new name - the candidacy of Dr. Julio Bendezu-Sarmiento, a well-known scientist and researcher who has devoted many years to studying the history and culture of Central Asia, was unanimously supported by the members of the Academic Council.

In conclusion, a description was given of the potential for a number of countries to join IICAS as full Member States and of the relevant efforts made by the Secretariat.
