On September 16, 2020, an agreement signing ceremony took place at Bukhara State University (BSU) to mark the opening of the joint International Research Center for the Study and Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of Central Asia.
On September 16, 2020, an agreement signing
ceremony took place at Bukhara State University (BSU) to mark the opening of
the joint International Research Center for the Study and Preservation of the
Cultural Heritage of Central Asia. The center was founded on the joint
initiative of Dr. Dmitry Voyakin, Director of the International Institute for
Central Asian Studies, and Mr. Obidzhon Khafizovich Khamidov, Rector of Bukhara
State University. The agreement was signed within the framework of the
Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation signed in 2018 between IICAS and BSU. The
opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Abror Zhuraev, Vice-Rector for
International Cooperation of the BSU, Mr. Zhamshid Zhuraev, Dean of the Faculty
of History and Cultural Heritage, which closely cooperated with IICAS to make
the Center open, as well as scientists and researchers of BSU. On the part of
IICAS, the ceremony was attended by Mr. Sukhrob Babayev, Director for Strategic
Development of IICAS.
The aim of the creation of the International
Research Center for the Study and Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of
Central Asia is to upgrade the quality of research in relevant areas and
consolidate efforts to more effectively address the study and preservation the
cultural heritage of Central Asia.
The center is located in one of the office
premises of BSU, kindly provided by the university administration.
The work of the center is aimed to implement
projects that will involve both international experts in the field of cultural
heritage and the faculty, researchers and students of the University. It is
anticipated that in the near future, this cooperation will help set up a
platform to share knowledge and experience between researchers of both BSU and
other regional universities and their colleagues from the universities abroad.
In addition, the center plans to attract
professors and researchers to deliver guest lectures and conduct practical workshops
for the students at BSU.
Office equipment and supplies and a set of
books published by IICAS were donated to the Bukhara State University for the
needs of the newly created International Research Center for the Study and
Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of Central Asia.
The parties agreed on the need to establish
closer mutual academic and research ties to create favorable conditions for the
development of the new Center.
