The
International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) is pleased to inform
that an agreement of cooperation has been signed with the International Center
for Documentary Heritage (ICDH) under the auspices of UNESCO. The agreement
became the first practical step toward the implementation of the Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) signed by the heads of the ICDH and IICAS in April 2022.
One of the
key areas of cooperation between the institutions is the study of the
documentary heritage of Central Asia. In 2022, the focus was made on creating
the inventory of surviving Sogdian scripts. The geographic range of the
initiative will cover the Central Asian states and Mongolia. The study is
expected to be supported by a number of experts and practitioners specializing
in Sogdian scripts.
A number of
events aimed at raising awareness of the documentary heritage of Central Asia
and the Sogdian scripts will be held in the course of this cooperation. They
will also help to bring the experts, authorities and other relevant
stakeholders around the table.
