On May 12, 2022, the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) hosted a delegation of the Archaeological Survey India and the Ministry of Culture of India. The delegation consisted of Ms. Vidyavathi Vaidyanathan,Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India, Ms. Sanjukta Mudgal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Janhwij Sharma, Additional Director General (Conservation & World Heritage) of the Archaeological Survey of India, and Anil Kumar Tiwari, Director (E.E.) of the Archaeological Survey India. The delegation was accompanied by the First Secretary of the Embassy of India in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Arif Saeed.

During the meeting, issues of cooperation in the preservation of cultural heritage was discussed with special focus on holding joint events, preparing and issuing publications, and building capacity. Genuine interest aroused the prospects for research on Buddhist monuments in the south of the Republic of Uzbekistan. A separate topic was India's intention to join IICAS as a full member state.
