On May 21, 2022, the International Institute
for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) hosted a delegation of the Embassy of the
Italian Republic led by His Excellency Mr. Agostino Pinna, Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic in the Republic of
Uzbekistan. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Simone Mantellini – an
Italian archaeologist who has been studying Central Asian heritage for year, as
well as Dr. Samariddin Suyunov, a researcher at the Gulamov Institute of
Archaeology.
The launch of the meeting was marked by
welcoming speeches by Mr. Pinna and Dr. Dmitriy Voyakin, the Director of IICAS.
Following the opening part, members of the Italian delegation as well as the
staff of IICAS who took part in the meeting introduced themselves. Further, Dr.
Voyakin briefly outlined the main directions of the institute's activities, talked
about the history and management structure, dwelling on the most important
achievements over the past years.
Special focus was made on the prospects for
establishing cooperation between IICAS and relevant research organizations,
expanding academic ties with scientists and researchers from Italy.
