On December 16, 2020, the 23rd regular session of the Academic Council of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) was held

On December 16, 2020, the 23rd regular session of the Academic Council of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) was held. It is important to note that the session of the Academic Council was held in a videoconference format for the first time ever.

The aforementioned session was attended by members of the Academic Council from ten IICAS member states, and a representative of Mongolia, which recently joined IICAS in 2020, participated in the session for the first time. In addition, the event was attended by a representative of the Tashkent office of UNESCO and corresponding members of IICAS.

The report of the IICAS Director – Voyakin D.A. – on the results of the Academic and research activities of the Institute in 2020, including the information on its completed and ongoing projects, was heard at the session. Special attention was also paid to the updated IICAS Bulletin, issued in 2020 in a new format. Additionally, forecasts and plans for the forthcoming 2021 were considered as well.

The report of the IICAS Director was well received by the members of the Academic Council.

As a separate key point, the Institute’s openness to the entry of new countries as participants in the IICAS agreement, as well as towards the establishment of new partnerships with research institutions, scientists, and researchers for the implementation of joint initiatives was emphasized during the held meeting.
