On 30 November – 3 December 2019 the ICOMOS Uzbekistan Initiative Workshop was hold in Bukhara. This event was organized by the ICOMOS International, University College London (UCL) and ICOMOS Uzbekistan Initiative, with the generous support of the State Administration for Cultural Heritage (SACH) of the People’s Republic of China. The organizing team headed by Dr. Ona Vileikis and Sukhrob Babaev managed to bring together leading researchers and heritage practitioners – representatives of ICOMOS National Committees of respective countries, including Jiang Bo (ICOMOS China), Eleonora Berti (ICOMOS Italy), Jordi Tresserras (ICOMOS Spain) and Kai Weise (ICOMOS Nepal). The event was attended by the staff members of IICAS, namely Anastasiya Stepanova, Farukh Khabibullayev and Alim Feyzulayev.
The seminar turned to a stage, where matters related to cultural heritage, sustainable development and heritage tourism were discussed. Special attention was given to setting up an ICOMOS National Committee in Uzbekistan, and challenges of re-opening the ICOMOS Kyrgyzstan and ICOMOS Tajikistan.
