"Silk Road: Zaravshan-Karakum Corridor"
By the decision of the Fifth
Meeting of the Coordinating Committee held in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) on
December 4-5, 2018 the International Institute for Central Asian Studies
(IICAS) was elected the Secretariat of the Serial Transnational Nomination of
the Silk Road "Silk Road: Zaravshan-Karakum Corridor", which brings
together the cultural heritage sites of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Republic of
Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
IICAS, as the Secretariat of
the Nomination, is pleased to announce that the draft version of the Nomination
Dossier was successfully prepared thanks to the support of the National
Commissions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Tajikistan for
UNESCO, the authorized bodies of Turkmenistan, the governorates of the Navoi
and Bukhara regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, University College London
(UCL), a group of international and national experts, the project the
nomination was successfully prepared.
In accordance with the
Article 127 of the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the 1972
Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural
Heritage, the draft version of the Dossier was sent on September 30, 2020 for
review and preliminary assessment by the UNESCO World Heritage Center (WHC).
IICAS, as the Secretariat of this Nomination, continues working on the Nomination
Dossier to have its final version submitted by February 2021.
