In the end of 2019 IICAS presented to the public the project “Digitization of the Unpublished Scientific Archives and Creation of a Unified Central Asian Database with a Wide Access Opportunity”.
The idea of creating of the information system “Archives of Central Asia” (ACA) received the support and funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. A software that can be utilized by all scientific archivists and institutions that collect, preserve and use the archival materials of Central Asia has been created.
Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Margulan of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Museum of History and Culture of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Institute of Art Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Karakalpak Research Institute of Humanitarian Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Samarkand State Institute participated in the project; they digitized and submitted their archives to the database. These are the unique materials on the sites of Central Asia, including those that have not been preserved.
All databases and software modules of the "Archives of Central Asia" (ACA) have been integrated with each other. ACA provides an opportunity for safe and low-cost storage, convenient search and use of information, as well as prompt access to the archive materials. The information system on the website of the project www.archiveca-iicas.org provides access for the users to the scientific resources (lists of funds, lists of funds, inventories, digitized inventories, references and reviews of the funds, etc.) and graphic copies of the documents.
IICAS plans the further replenishment of the ACA database and invites all interested institutes of the region to cooperation.
