IICAS announces the forthcoming monograph publication in two parts with the catalogue "Iconographic Symbolism and Socio-Religious Background of the Worldly Mission of Buddha Siddhartha as Represented in Gandhara Sculptures".
The brightest chapter in the history of Pakistan is the Buddhist Gandhara, which prospered during the first five centuries A.D. The history of the Buddhist Gandhara civilization is the history of a cosmopolitan society that included different communities of the world. A completely different style of art became a product of different social trends and became a very interesting and effective language for expressing the history of the Buddha's life.
The present book is based on the research work made for the doctoral thesis of Mr. Gani-ur Rahman, a member of the Academic Council of IICAS representing the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
